Dhaulpur

Tehsil Dhaulpur, District Dhaulpur, Rajasthan

Also spelled Dholpur
This small town is full of fascinating facts and history. It is famous for the red sandstone used in construction. The most prestigious structure built from Dhaulpur stone is the Red Fort in Delhi. The town has witnessed many battles due to its proximity with Agra. Sikandar Lodhi plundered it in 1501, uprooting all its gardens. Babur mentions that Dhaulpur was surrendered to him in 1526, he also built a garden here, ruins of that garden could be seen in Jhor on the Bari road (National Highway 118).
